Special Issue

 | Post date: 2025/06/3 |

The Special Issue on “Sustainable and High-Performance Composite Materials for Structural and Functional Applications” addresses the urgent global need for environmentally responsible yet high-performing materials.
With growing interest in natural fiber composites, agricultural waste utilization, and hybrid systems, there is a significant push toward greener alternatives in engineering. This aligns with IJMSE’s core themes—composites, biomaterials, advanced processing, and materials for energy and environmental applications.
Advancements in nano-reinforcements, additive manufacturing, sol-gel synthesis, severe plastic deformation (SPD), and AI-driven design are enabling composites to achieve tailored properties for use in structural, biomedical, and energy systems. This Special Issue will bring together innovative research from multidisciplinary domains, encouraging collaboration across materials science, mechanical engineering, bioengineering, and computational modelling.

Topics of Interest Include (but are not limited to):
  • Green and sustainable composites

  • Nano- and hybrid-reinforced composite systems

  • Mechanical, chemical, and functional property analysis

  • Corrosion, ageing, and durability studies

  • Additive manufacturing of composite parts

  • Smart and responsive materials

  • Biomaterials and bioengineering applications

  • Energy storage, filtration, and thermal regulation

  • Modeling and simulation using AI or digital twins

About the Journal:

The Iranian Journal of Materials Science and Engineering (IJMSE) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scientific research journal published quarterly by the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST) in collaboration with the Iranian Metallurgical Society and the Iranian Ceramic Society.

It publishes original, high-quality research papers in the broad field of Materials Engineering, including composites, ceramics, metallurgy, and functional materials. The journal is indexed in Scopus (since 2009), Web of Science – Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) (since 2017), and Islamic World Science Citation Center (ISC) with a notable impact factor.

Recently, IJMSE has advanced to Q2 in the Engineering category on Scopus, with a CiteScore of 0.8 and an SJR of 0.17, reflecting its growing international impact and recognition. Importantly, IJMSE is a fully open-access journal with no article processing charges (APCs) or submission fees, ensuring free and equitable dissemination of cutting-edge research worldwide.
